McBride Triples GOP Support As Harris Slide Continues

William "Will" McBride, candidate for the Republican nomination to oppose Sen. Bill Nelson, has sharply increased his support among Republican voters. In the latest Strategic Vision poll, released today, McBride who announced his candidacy in May, receives 22% up from 6% in the June survey.

Will McBride, campaigning in South Florida, stated, "The race for the GOP nomination is now down to Will McBride and Katherine Harris. We must return Nelson's seat to the Republicans. Our campaign has the momentum to win the primary on September 5 and again in the November general election."

"We are obviously delighted with the current poll figures", McBride continued. "They confirm what I am experiencing as I go around the state: Republican voters are responding to our message.

"I will continue to stress that we must put a stop to out of control spending by the Congress", McBride stated, "to end the practice of earmarked legislation for special interests and to return Congress to the ethical principles our Founding Fathers espoused.

"Republican support for Harris declined over the month, with McBride more than tripling his support", Strategic Vision CEO and co-founder David E. Johnson stated, clarifying an earlier release by the firm. "This demonstrates Harris' continued weakness … within her own Party."

In the Strategic Vision poll, Katherine Harris, in the race since June 2005, receives 45% GOP voter support, down from 48% in June. "The fact that she polls below 50% … must be alarming for the Harris campaign", Johnson observed.

"This is a complete reversal of over a year ago", the Strategic Vision CEO continued, "when Harris was highly regarded by rank and file Republicans and led any potential challenger such as Charlie Crist, Toni Jennings or Tommy Franks with nearly 65% of the primary vote."

When asked if this marked a trend among GOP voters, Will McBride responded that "It continues what has been building the last several weeks. Just this past Sunday, we virtually tied Katherine Harris in a straw poll conducted at the Seminole County Republican Womens' Elephant Stampede."
